Trucker Appreciation Week
On September 13-19, 2020, National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is running.
This year, a central point of the National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW) is the truck drivers’ role during COVID-19. NTDAW is the time of America’s gratitude to the truck driver profession and appreciation of their hard work.
During the Pandemic, the industry was instantly providing much-needed support to the communities by offering reliable transportation and providing needed medical personnel and supplies.
COVID-19 and National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
This year it became significantly noticeable that truck drivers undertake one of the most demanding roles in the U.S. economy. Elaine L. Chao, the Secretary of Transportation of the U.S. Department of Transportation, expressed gratitude to truck drivers. In the USDOT official video, she said:
Since the COVID-19 crisis, the American people have greatly appreciated the importance of our nation’s supply chain. And for the truck drivers who helped to keep our store shelves stocked with food and supplies while most of us were confined to our homes.
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week reminds us: Despite recent lockdowns and other restrictions, America’s 3.5 million truck drivers continue to deliver 70% of all freight in the United States.
