From September, it will become easier for the trucker with updated HOS rules!
What will change from September 29?
Short-haul Exception
Previously, CDL drivers were limited to 100 air miles for the short-haul exception. The short-haul exception now applies to drive within a 150-mile radius. If truck drivers' maximum working shift was only 12 hours earlier, now it has been increased to 14 hours.
Sleeper Berth Provision
Truck drivers are allowed to do a 7/3 split in addition to the usual 8/2 split. This means drivers can spend 7 hours in Sleeper Berth, finish some left-over driving time, and then do 3 hours in either Off Duty or Sleeper Berth to complete the split break.
30-Minute Break Requirement
This rule requires a 30-minute break after 8 hours of driving in On Duty status. 30-minute breaks now only need to be done after 8 hours of real driving. In the past, truckers had to take a 30-minute break within 8 hours of going On Duty, whether you were driving that whole time or not.
Adverse Driving Conditions Exception
This rule gives an additional 2 hours on the road if the driver is in unfavorable traffic conditions. When truck drivers announce "Adverse Driving Conditions" on their logs, they can now get an extra 2 hours for 11-hour driving hours and 14-hour duty hours.
